Alessia Cara Talks Jingle Ball Tour, Upcoming Album & Addressing Her 'Insecurities' on New Song 'Trust My Lonely'
What do you do after a year of dominating the charts with hit singles and snagging the Grammy for best new artist? If you`re Alessia Cara, you keep going.
In January, the singer won a Grammy following her wildly successful year with songs like "Stay" and "Scars to Your Beautiful." Then in June, she released the new song "Growing Pains," from her upcoming album The Pains of Growing. Now, with two more releases from The Pains of Growing under her belt -- "A Little More" and "Trust My Lonely" -- the 22-year-old Canadian singer is getting ready for her sophomore album to be released in its entirety in November and a tour early next year.
On Tuesday, Cara joined Elvis Duran and several members of the Z100 Morning Show at Macy’s Herald Square to announce the lineup for Z100’s 2018 iHeart Radio Jingle Ball Tour. Cara will headline the Jingle Ball Tour, performing at the annual holiday music event for her third time, and also performed a few of her songs at the kick-off event.
Billboard spoke with Cara at the Jingle Ball event about how far she`s come since playing the tour for the first time three years ago and where she’s going as she enters the next chapter in her career.
In your upcoming album, you reflect on growing up and the changes that come with it. Does it feel any different to be performing at Jingle Ball again since your first time playing in 2015 when you were considered an "up-and-coming" artist?
Well, definitely the album -- actually before 2019. A tour will definitely be happening. I don`t know exactly when because I need time to rehearse it and figure it out, but definitely somewhere at the top of the year.
You released "Trust My Lonely" just a few days ago. What does the song`s title mean to you?
When I initially wrote that song, I wrote it because of my insecurities. I think a lot of people, we become comfortable in our misery or comfortable in a relationship that may be bad for us. This song was just a reminder for me and for everyone to just trust yourself and let go of things don`t serve you in a positive way, especially your heart and your soul.
